Samsung Electronics has launched a new feature on its Samsung Global Goals (SGG) app that aims to encourage its Galaxy users to work together and contribute to advancing the Global Goals. The Donation Leaderboard feature, launched on April 4th, 2023, creates a ranking system for donations, where users can track their progress and compete with other users globally or in their country.
The SGG app was launched in 2019 in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and provides users with a platform to donate directly to the Global Goals, generate funding by watching advertisements in the app, and learn more about the 17 goals established in 2015.
The new feature, accessed through the Donate section of the app, shows users how much they have donated to specific Global Goals and how they rank compared to other users. The aim is to motivate Galaxy users to increase their donations and encourage others to do the same, all for the benefit of progressing the Global Goals.
Samsung hopes that the Donation Leaderboard will continue the momentum of the app, which has already raised over USD10 million for the UNDP to promote resilience and accelerate progress towards the Global Goals. To date, Galaxy users have directed the most donations towards Goal 2: Zero Hunger, followed by Goal 1: No Poverty and Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
The Global Goals are a collection of 17 goals that world leaders agreed to achieve by 2030, including stopping climate change, fighting inequality, and ending poverty. Samsung aims to use the power of technology to provide opportunities for the Galaxy community to take action and contribute to achieving the Global Goals.
Through small actions and collective effort, citizens of the planet have a responsibility to take care of people and the Earth, our home. Samsung’s new app feature is a fun and interactive way for the Galaxy community to contribute to the Goals that matter most to them, and together, create meaningful change.
